Calling all Spikeaholics. Warning. Warning. Sexual content abounds!

This book is the perfect fit to fill the Buffy-sized hole in my heart.
Cat is a part vamp/part human, super-strength, vampire-slaying goddess with eyes that glow green when she gets riled up. She has been slaying since the age of 16. Bones is her sleek-and-sexy, bleach blonde, British vampire sidekick who also slays vampires for kicks. And for the bounty. Together they form a kick-ass team who love to heat things up on the dance floor and in the bedroom.
Buffy rip-off much?! YES. But if you expect that, it helps. The absence of Buffy has really been playing on my psyche lately, so this was exactly what I needed. If you go in expecting something original, you WILL be sorely disappointed.
Just because it's a derivative, doesn't mean it can't be enjoyable. Plus, I was in the mood for a snarky, mindless romp, which is exactly what this is. I think mood will definitely have a huge effect on how you view this book.
Gawd - every time Bones spoke, I would start having to fan myself.
I felt like I was having hot flashes. Geez, why are my thighs all sweaty?
If you've read any of my Fever reviews (notably Faefever or Dreamfever), you probably know that I can go a bit overboard with the love for my favorite male characters. Bones is no exception.
Bones is what you would get if you mixed together two of my favorite things: soot-covered half naked firefighters and rocky road ice cream. Burning hot, dirty deliciousness.
DAMN! Wish I had a visual aid for that one. Hmmm, in fact I would gladly hand over a million dollar bill for such a picture!!
He had me so sexually frustrated in the first half of the book that I was pulling out all my hair.
I'm pretty much down to my LAST eyebrow now.

And yes, I look exactly like that.
Part of my problem was that I wanted it to keep going with that much intensity. But halfway through the book, they are already getting it on. Not that it wasn't good, but I would have liked a little more tease. I wanted the to be tortured with it. But I'm weird like that.
So technically, Cat is not a virgin but in the beginning she acts like one. She's very virginal. And at first, she blushes every time he says anything to her.
And she's 22 and getting ragged on for staying out all night once. I can't stand her mom or her grandparents. Get the EFF over yourselves!
I can barely justify giving this book four stars, but I decided that three would be too few. That doesn't mean that I didn't love it.
I feel like I just need to add that unlike the Fever series where I loved Mac and cared deeply about the things happening to her, I really didn't care at all about the plot of this book or really even that much about the main character. The only thing that kept me going was the relationship between the Bones and Cat, so I really hope that this changes in the sequels.
So obviously, I did love Bones (no really?). But that's the main problem. He made this book for me. If you take him out, this book is two stars, maybe. The rest of the story and the main character were not all that captivating. Cat is NO Buffy, though she tries to be.
Although, I did find this artwork. It's supposed to be Buffy and Spike but it makes me think of Cat and Bones:

This is your typical vampire slayin' and vampire layin' book. Besides the green glowy eyes that the vampires have, there isn't alot here that you wont find in another vamp romance, except for Bones. He makes it sooo worth it.
Regardless of it's flaws, it's definitely a SUPERnatural fun ride. And really hot to boot.
Oh Bones. *sigh* Oh Bones, oh BONES!! *smacks the desk with both hands*

Trust me. With Bones - you wouldn't have to fake it.

Oh please, Lyndsey, you've been dying for me to slobber on your page since the day we e-met! Stop denying you like it!
How did you know I swing that way?! I thought I was hiding it so well with all the hot guys that I go on and on about...
It's me. People of either sex (or, let's face it, indeterminate sex as well) find me attractive and can't help themselves. Therefor it's always safest to assume that someone's been lusting after me.It's not your fault. It's just how I am.
It's a curse, really.
*Shakes fist at Sam*The second book of this series: it, sort of, has like the hottest sex scene ever written.
But I agree... Bones *drool*
Yes, I can't wait for that joyous day when we finally merge as wife and wife. Alas, if it wasn't for the great Night Huntress debate of 2011 that tore us assunder!

Yes, the infamous chapter 32. I don't want to build it up in your mind or anything but... I JIMP just thinking about it.Hmm, I found a kind of sick pleasure in this book but I would happily skip it for the second book which I loved a great deal more.
In the second book, we meet Cat years later and I feel she's a much better character.
Oh yes, I am already getting a sick pleasure from it. But it definitely has the same quality that Darkfever had. The characters can be annoying but it's strangely addictive.
I'm sorry if you don't like it more. I really am!Yes, I think the book takes place at least 3 years later(?)
I don't know. I simply felt that the second book was FAR better than the first.
Yes, I read the second book. It was... um... wait a minute, I need to think about this... It was... quite... the surprise. It kinda sneaks up from ahem, behind you.^^
The seconed book really ruined it for me. I can't stand Cat. She's too loud, too bitchy, too obnoxious,... (I'm going to stop because my list is long)
Yeah, Ive heard about the, uh, surprise attack. But I've been craving some Spike here lately and this is keeping me from going crazy. I just imagine it's him under an assumed name. And then I imagine its him under...Uh, I need a cold shower.
Let me help you with that.
Better?
Yes but then again: Spike >>>>>>>> Boner.
And Spike was there first, I mean come on, a writer should at least try to be a little creative. Bleached hair + bad boy + English accent = Spike. The end.
Never ever EVER listen to the audio books. My bird's English accent sounds better than the woman who tried to voice rape Boner.
I actually listened to the audible sample and didn't care for the narrators voice. I really didnt get a good example of his accent - I think he said like one line in it.And thanks for the shower! That helped. But I'll just need another one in a little bit after more Bones. Ahhh, I love his dirty talk. Arg, dammit. Again already? Maybe I'll just save that cold shower image...
I'm so glad you are loving Bones! I would really hate to have to delete you from my friends list for giving this book a bad rating LOL ;)
Come on now! It's completely original! Are you telling me that there are other books consisting of a vampire hunter who falls in love with a vampire even though that hunter initially loathes their very existence. . . ;)What do you think about Cat?
I know, that NEVER happens! I think Cat is all right, kind of a push over, but I really can't stand her family at all.
Great review, Lyndsey. It made me laugh, and it's not even 8 am, LOL. Usually I don't even TALK before 9. The second book IS far better. There's that tension again because they don't see each other for 4 years, + Cat becomes a little less whiny.
Have fun reading it. ;)
Lol, I LOVE your reviews! I have a feeling that even if I gave you Hurrah for Little Noddy to review, you would manage to sneak in a Buffy reference somewhere! ;)
Vinaya - Challenge Accepted!!!! Now to find a copy of Hurrah for Little Noddy...Thanks Nic and Maja! And Anthi - Bones is the new Barrons. (well... not quite, but almost)

LOL!
You can find a used copy on Amazon for like two dollars. Also, since it is now a challenge, I guess we should make some rules...1. No blatant comparisons: for eg. "Noddy is no Spike" or "Whedon could have written a better book."
2. It has to be funny.
3. It must involve at least one story of Noddy slaying vampires.
4. It must include at least one picture of Noddy and Spike fighting for Buffy's affections (You are allowed to take the Paint Queen Flannery's help for this, if needed)
5. You must make at least one sexual pun involving Noddy's car.
... Okay I can't think of anymore, but other suggestions are welcome. We'll make it into a proper set of rules before you start reading the book! Yay! :D
No, no. Not better. But very, very close. He is actually the naughty version of Spike, where you actually get to hear him say naughty words and see him do naughty things. Like others before me have said, it's like dirty Buffy fanfic. That's what made me read this book, in fact.
And Vinaya - now you're just being ridiculous! Lol. I agreed to a Buffy reference is ALL. But terms 1 and 2 are acceptable. We shall see about the others... I do still kind of want it to be an actual review. So, we shall shall see.
I think I just had a Spike overdose. Oh, Spike! Oh, James Marsters! Oh, Bones who is really Spike in disguise!Great review, Lyndsey. You have made my week. You & Damon Salvatore.
You know I can't resist an opportunity to put my Paint skillz to use. I'll have to find out what Noddy looks like:)
Yay! Woot Woot. Vampire slaying Noddy!! Spike has to be in it too, though. I assume you know what he looks like... He's all over this forum. Lol.
Here's a frame of reference for everyone:REGULAR NODDY DOIN' HIS THANG

Get back to me when the book is complete.
Lyndsey I started watching Buffy on my Instant Netflix today because of this review... It's great! :D
YAAAAAAAAAAY! OMIGAWD!!! YAAAAAAAY! *starts jumping up and up down* Aren't you sooooo excited?! I am.Lol. I feel like Kristen Wiig on the SNL surprise skit...
lol Buffy was addictive! They still show reruns on the Oxygen channel and the Logo channel (In Connecticut) so I get my fix :) it's funny how all these kids are obsessing over Edward when Angel was it when I was a teen! lol
Haha! I know, people think I'm crazy because I still freak out when I see my favorite shows on as reruns. Even though I've already seen them all.
oh yea I'll totally sit there and watch them too! and Charmed....I don't know why but I'll watch those reruns lol
Haven't seen Charmed yet but I have the DVDs. I collect series when they're cheap and then binge on them when I have time. I need to catch up on Fringe and Chuck, so I can watch the new ones.
You fell behind on Fringe? How could you!Well, then this is a good chance to ruin the surprise with this huge spoiler (view spoiler)
