This review is based only on Sherrilyn Kenyon's short story...and I have to say, as a whole, I'm not all that fond of SK's short stories. I can think of several that I really haven't liked and very few, read as none, that I enjoyed. This one was no different. A DH who can turn into a bat??? Huh? Tired plotline where folks all hate each other until someone's life is in danger and wait, that device is used twice actually - someone may be killed by enemies, then someone is so damaged it takes days of sitting by their bed watching them struggle to recover. Everyone can then confront their own feelings and voila - happy ending.

SK uses this device in many of her books and I don't mind it as part of a full story, where I get to know and love the characters because of their personal trials, but when for the most part the device is the story, I am not amused. It's hard to even enjoy the characters, I just see the device and either feel unfairly manipulated or bored.

Not one of my faves, for sure. Not even sure why it's DH 9.2 or whatever, seems like it could be read anywhere in the series and be just as worthless to the overall series.
