A perfect companion to READING LOLITA IN TEHRAN by Azar Nafisi.
BOOKSELLER is on the surface about the struggles of a Kabuli bookseller with the Taliban. Since he sells primarily books of secular content, many translated from western languages the talabi had confiscated and burned some of his books; but the bookseller doesn't acquiesce so easily. THe sub-plots still keeping within the context of struggle are much darker and heavier in theme among which include plural marriage and the POVs from the bookseller and how his plural marriage places him in elevated esteem by society is in stark contrast to the opinions and silent and not so silent suffering of his wives.
