I abandoned my first attempt to read this book -- it seemed a bit egotistical and unrealistic. But I am glad I gave it a second try! Rafe teaches in the "Jungle" of L.A. and achieves fantastic results with his 5th and 6th graders through hard work, determination, creativity, stubbornness, personal funding of projects, and few hours of sleep! But he also points out mistakes he made and the close-mindedness of the educational system. I recommend this book for teachers and parents both. His philosophy of education and his heart-warming stories are inspiring.
