We usually think of Hawthorne writing depressing novels about Puritans and sinning. The Blithedale Romance is nothing like that. Instead it's about a bunch of idealists getting together to create a utopian farm--a place where people can work, but also think and write and read and converse about intellectually stimulating topics. Of course, all the characters are flawed, there's a tragic death and misunderstandings, and the main character's "romance" falls through. So in many ways, it's very Hawthorne. :)
