Read in February, 2011, read count: 2

** spoiler alert ** About midway through the book, there is a scene in which the whisky priest is trying to obtain spirits. That scene gives plenty of reasons why I like Graham Greene so much: the subtlety both of the tension and of Greene's characterization. There are several such scenes in the book, distributed fairly evenly throughout, and there are some great phrasings as well. It's just what I needed after a fairly awful book: a simple story, with complex characters, well-told.
