Invisible Monsters

by Chuck Palahniuk
Invisible Monsters is a mirror image of the culture we live in. The book explores the drawbacks of the narcissistic obsession some people have their appearance.
You could start by saying that it is a drama. That is true: the story elements of the book contain many touching, poignant scenes that just drop off the page with lively color. But this book is not just a drama. There are many humorous elements, too.
Chuck Palahniuk is a talented writer who has the ability to ironically poke fun at everyone's insecurities, constantly inserting snippy remarks that make you laugh out loud. There are also some mild thriller elements, a few crazy plot twists, and some insfightful philosophical logic progressions.
At it's core this book feels like a story of many people searching for their identity and place in the world, which is something that at one level or not very relatable. The twists and turns throughout the novel mixed with a quirky narrative and some interesting characters make this a very enjoyable read.
