This insightful Slate article encapsulates most of my views thus far. McEwan's dialogue with Mrs. Dalloway is as satisfying, if not more, than Michael Cunningham's The Hours. Bravo!

Al one of the best books in recent times. particularly because it raises the issue of our lack of gratitude for civilizaed life. we take civilization for granted. and this book shows how dangerous that can be.

Courtney Stirrat Ooh, thank you! I LOVED Atonement, so I am excited to check out his other works.

Al what about amsterdam...that was cool too.

Courtney Stirrat What about Solar? I actually think Saturday is my favorite of the three, with Amsterdam and On Chesil Beach.

Courtney Stirrat to follow, I mean.
