My blog review: http://parafantasy.blogspot.com/2010/...
After just finished reading the Iron Queen by Julie Kagawa, I am speechless, though I had to come up with words in order to write this review. Here’s my attempt at trying to describe how much this book has amazed me.
Characters- We got to see a side of all the characters that we hadn’t seen in the two previous books in the series. Both Ash and Meghan change a lot throughout the course of this novel, and it shows a lot, especially toward the end of the novel.
Plot- The plot was paced beautifully. I never got bored even once while reading this—there was always just the right amount of tension in every page that kept me flipping the pages. Plus there were many what Holly Lisle likes to call “candy bar scenes” that had me on the edge of my seat.
Dialogue- Then dialogue was so beautiful it made me cry—even when it wasn’t sad. Let’s just say that the things that characters said to each other were very deep.
Writing- I think by now most of you would know how much I admire Julie Kagawa’s writing style and voice, but this book blew me away! I don’t know how she was able to say much in so little words.
Overall - Julia Kagawa has done it again. She has this stunning talent of making her novels just as good as and even better than the last one she wrote. I laughed; I smiled, and even cried a few times while reading this. It was quite an emotional ride. If there’s anyone who still hasn’t read the Iron Fey Series yet I encourage you to check it out as soon as you can—you won’t be disappointed at all. All I can say is when is Iron Knight coming out? :)

“Hey, princess.”
“Hey,” I whispered, as Ash slipped his arms around my waist from behind, drawing me close. I could feel his glare aimed at Puck over my head, a silent, protective gesture that spoke louder than any words. Mine. Back off.”

“His forehead bumped softly against mine, his brilliant silver gaze searing into me. “I plan to keep you, from everyone, for as long as I’m alive. That includes Puck, the false king, and anyone else who would take you away.” One corner of his mouth quirked, as I struggled to catch my breath under his powerful scrutiny. “I guess I should’ve warned you that I have a slight possessive streak.”

“But ... but what if I hit you?”
A snort. “You’re not going to hit me.”
“How do you know?” I bristled at his amused tone. “I could hit you. Even master swordsmen make mistakes. I could get a lucky shot, or you might not see me coming. I don’t want to hurt you.”
He favored me with another patient look. “And how much experience do you have with swords and weapons in general?”
“Um.” I glanced down at the saber in my hand. “Thirty seconds?”
He smiled, that calm, irritatingly confident smirk. “You’re not going to hit me.”

“My name is Ashallyn'darkmyr Tallyn, third son of the Unseelie Court...Let it be known--from this day forth, I vow to protect Meghan Chase, daughter of the Summer King, with my sword, my honor, and my life. Her desires are mine. Her wishes are mine. Should even the world stand against her, my blade will be at her side. And should it fail to protect her, let my own existence be forfeit. This I swear, on my honor, my True Name, and my life. From this day on..." His voice went even softer, but I still heard it as though he whispered it into my ear. "I am yours.”
