I read this book because I've been really interested in these postmodern takes on classic stories (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, etc), and my library happened to have this one available for check out when I was looking for something to read. It's a fun story, and not at all what I was expecting. It was much more serious and dark than I thought, and the author did an impressive job of adding vampires into the story that we all know fairly well. Sure, there were missing bits, but overwhelmingly Grahame-Smith did good job of picking up the important parts. Some of the lesser characters I wasn't familiar with, and upon doing a bit of research on my own I found they were real people from Lincoln's past. So, even if the story weren't good (but it was!) I would have come away with a renewed interest in this time period and the country's past, which is reason enough to say this is a good book that I'd recommend!
