An utterly different novel than her Booker Prize-winning Wolf Hall, except in that both show an incredibe ability to imagine an alien world and the plausible interiority of its inhabitants. In this case, the world in question is that of low-rent psychics, and in particular one who actually can commune with spirits but would rather not. Goes off the rails near the end, but a great read until then.
