Read and created a teaching unit on this for a YA Novels class.

Torn between giving it 3 stars and giving it 5. The 3 stars are for the typical teen love story: boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back through a series of clever machinations, except that both parts are played by boys, as they are both gay. I respect that David Levithan is showing gay characters as normal people, neither tortured souls who are miserable because they're gay, nor as perfect transcendent human beings, but some of the love story felt a little too cliched for my taste. Noah was too vaguely drawn to be the object of such affection.

On the other hand, the friendship between Paul & Tony was great, and I loved the lyrical language Levithan used to describe Paul's viewpoint: "our happiness is the closest we'll ever come to a generous God, so we figure Tony's parents will understand, if only they weren't set on misunderstanding so many things."
