liked it

I'm trying to find things about Southern California culture to appreciate.

Since the hard-boiled detective novel came out of SoCal, I'm trying it out. I liked the movie China Town, so why not?

Well, this book did not blow me away. Noir film has been rehashed, so it's hard to see past the modern-day copies of Hammett. It doesn't seem that amazing. Maybe I'm just not enough of a man to appreciate his Spade-like character Beaumont's ability to solve the mystery, get the girl, and feel a few emotions in the course of a 200-page book.
