Anyone who has read Jodi Picoult will know that you can finish one of her books in less than 2 days. It's not because her books are so easy to read, but because they are so compelling you can't place them down.

Vanishing Acts is about Delia Hopkins who had a great childhood, a wonderful little girl, and was engaged to one of her best friends, Eric. However, 28 years later, her father is arrested for kidnapping Delia when she was 4 years and moving across country. Delia now uncovers the truth about her life and her memories start to unfold as the girl she once was, Bethany Matthews.

Just like Jodi Picoult to pose the reader with ethical choices. If you had a child and you thought that child was in danger would you kidnap him/her and run as far as you can? What if the court always sided with the mother and as a father, you knew you were the best parent? And at what point is a child's safety more important than the parents emotions? Then ask yourself, why is it children from abused homes or neglected homes are often returned to that very same environment?
