I decided to start reading this series after watching a few episodes of the TV series on the CW. Up until this book I have truly enjoyed reading this series. This book however causes me to lose faith in the series.

There is a lot going on in this book actually I believe more so than in the previous books. There are many new characters that Elena and the crew meet while in the Dark Dimension. Also there is the Dark Dimension that is thrown at us. This Dark Dimension is a whole new world which is creepy and an old feeling place.

The main issue I have with this particular book is that Elena cannot seem to make up her mind between Stefan and Damon. She does know that she loves Stefan however at times when she is with Damon she completely forgets him. The love triangle between Elena, Stefan and Damon tends to feel like a never ending bad soap opera.

I think the ending of this book was the best part and actually through me for a loop. What happened in the last chapter almost has me waiting for the next installment The Return: Midnight.
