Duras is probably my favorite author. This book was completely perfect. Writing in a nonlinear fashion is tricky and hard to pull off successfully, however my experience of this book was seamless. The Lover also has a palpable honesty to it: human beings experience beauty and love in many different ways, some of them quite unconventional or in opposition to the status quo, but that does not diminish or invalidate the those experiences. I could see this being a difficult book for some to swallow, but I thought it was lovely.
