really liked it
bookshelves: crime

Not much to add to the avalanche of reviews - it's very well written, great characters.

I found the controversial scene in the middle of the book shocking and annoying on first read but only because it seemed out of place within the book. It's only given context by the second book. Taken as the start of a trilogy, then, near flawless. Taken on its own, that scene makes it flawed, I think.

Love the idea of taking the standard form of the locked room mystery and making the island itself the room *applause*. One of those ideas that, as a writer, must make you must want to do a little jig when it arrives, as it's solid gold.
