60 out of 100 for 2010

Spenser does college basketball; this follows the pattern of many of the other Spenser novels in which a young person gets drawn into trouble and cannot get her or himself out of it. In this case, the victim is a college basketball star, who has been sucked into a point shaving scandal by hoods from his old neighborhood. He is also a victim of a system which has encouraged his athletic prowess at the expense of his education. At some level, this may sound cliche, but I have known too many young men like this and wish that a few young athletes I have known had a Spenser and a Hawk looking out for them.
