it was amazing

One of a handful of books that I will read again and again. I'm not sure I totally get people who find this book repulsive. It doesn't exactly glorify military service, and while the political views are libertarian, I don't think they're totally unreasonable (I dig the service=citizenship thing). It's not a utopian sci-fi setting, but it's not completely dismal either.

In the end, I enjoy it because it's a good yarn. You grow up with Rico and are quickly able to empathize with him. I guess it could actually fall into the realm of the "juvenile" books that Heinlein wrote previously, but is that so wrong? Reading about a likable characters trials and tribulations isn't so sophisticated, but when done correctly, as Heinlein does, it leaves one satisfied.
