I was really looking forward to this book, but sadly, Born at Midnight turned out to be just okay.
The writing is well done, but it seemed that these characters were all over the place and the storyline was going everywhere and no where all at once.
Kylie was a very pouty character. Her life really sucks right now and she's gonna make sure the readers know it. Her fixation on the words 'freak' and 'goth', overly excessive denial and her inner dilemma between Trey, Lucas and Derek was all frustrating and annoying.
The other characters weren't much better, just trying to one-up each other with there supernatural greatness. I couldn't seem to connect with any of them and that goes for the boys; Derek and Lucas as well.
With that said, I did find the general concept intriguing and some of the scenes were pretty entertaining and even humorous, plus, there were a few twist I didn't see coming.
For the first book in a series, it does show some promise and while we don't know what Kylie's supernatural gift is yet, I have a guess, and will most likely have to check out the next book in the series.
Thank-you, Alexa for sending me a copy:)

Great review, Tina! She's choosing between THREE guys? Don't know that I'll be reading this one . . .
Pretty much how I felt about it. And I don't understand why she even still cares about Trey... >.>;;
Exactly! ^^ Still, I'm willing to give the next book a shot, sometimes with books like this it tends to get better. We'll see >.<

Hmm, not sure this one is for me. A series starter where you don't know what the MC's power is all about?? Thanks for the great review Tina! I'll be passing on this one. ^^
Three guys? Come one, she can do better than that. Zoey Redbird is up to 5 or 6 now. Phsaw....amateur.
That's EXACTLY why I've never started the House of Night series. I'm not into girls who act like sluts.
~Tina~ wrote: "Seriously?!?! Oh thank GAWD I gave up on that series ^^"I haven't read the last couple books, but the last one I read, that was where it was heading.
Zoey is....one of a kind. Lets leave it at that.
Great review Tina. I am skipping this one.I read up to book six (I hate giving up on a series, I made it half way) and she was only up to 4 but she was pretty much kissing all of them! Ho bag.
Same here, Nic! Though I have to say that the last books were torture...I tried reading book 7, I honestly don't know why, but I failed miserably.ROFL Morg XD Zoey is definitely a slut, yes. Eric, Stark, that teacher dude, Heath, that fallen Angel guy...seriously... *shakes head*
