I'm not going to go into a huge analyze of the book, I just want to give a quick opinion for those reading feedbacks trying to decide if they should read this book.

I absolutely loved the first two books, they were brilliant. This book was very good, but not as good as the first two. The main problem in my eyes is that the book felt like it was meant to be 800-1000 pages but ended up being cut by half or more. The result is that there is a ton of characters who all play a fairly minor part in the storyline, including all the main characters. That's a major problem because Dune rely almost entirely on the characters to entertain, while the story only play a minor part. I think if this book had been split into two 400-pages books to allow a deeper exploration of every character and their views on the events of the book, it would have been right up there with the first two Dune books, but as it stand, it wasn't quite up to par.

So, is it worth reading? I'd say if you liked the first two books, this one will slightly disappoint you but that it's still worth reading. It's not anywhere close to the complete piece of garbage most people here try to make it out to be.

Also, if the reviews I've read about the fourth book are correct, Children of Dune was merely a breather between the two awesomeness that are Dune Messiah and God Emperor of Dune. That remain to be seen though.

Katbus I think this is the most concise and accurate review of this book I have read. I agree that there was more to be explored with nearly every character, and that this could have been either a longer book or a set of mini-volumes. I am also tired of hearing that this book is just a steaming pile of crap, or that it's boring.
