Hersey tells the stories of six survivors of Hiroshima. At only 115 pages the book is short on detail but is still eye-opening none-the-less (even for me). The stories are interwoven in order to paint a picture of what was happening throughout the city from just before the explosion through the first month. A friend of mine recently said that she opposes nuclear weapons because they are instruments of death, it is the fact that dying from blast and radiation effects is a horrible way to die. I now understand what she meant.
