** spoiler alert ** It's so rare to find classic LGBT literature, especially from well-known authors like Forster. I didn't even know what it was about when I picked it up; that said, I found it virtually impossible to put down, and finished the same day I started. It makes me sad that people used to think being gay was a crime, and that it was something that could be "cured" by things like hypnotism. Things may still not be so great even now, but at least we're allowed to use the word "gay" rather than silly euphemisms like "an unmentionable of the Oscar Wilde variety" (though these types of statements made me giggle in their originality and inventiveness). I liked the characters and their relationships, even though it bugged me when Maurice's first boyfriend suddenly became "normal" (i.e., straight). This was a wonderful book, and I've had it on my mind ever since I finished. If only it were longer.
