really liked it

This book is a simple but correct and well-ordered version of urban sociology and social theory connected. It gives the reader a great summary of research themes in urban studies conceptualized within the larger social theory. I first read this book to review the basics before an urban sociology class. From urban history -the old cities and the modernizing city- to collective consumption and urban labor, from critical theory to the social production of space, it has been a wonderful review. Perhaps, the late chapters that give examples from the Australian context may feel irrelevant to some students, which is but a minor setback, because the language and style of first chapters already set you in to the course of the book.
