I hate reading anything Oprah recommends, but I was at my mom's house and nothing else was available. It's actually a really good book. As a feminist, I'm still having trouble deciding whether geishas are empowered women or pawns of a system completely defined by men . . . but I guess the fact that this book is about a woman whose whole life is in service of men, yet I still can't see her as completely disempowered, says a lot.
