really liked it

I hate to give the Bible 4 stars... but it's sometimes a little too much history and not enough spiritual gems. Also, there is a lot that happens that doesn't seem to fit well with Christian values... some of the books heroes and heroines are unexplainably cruel.

Shellie I think you are speaking of the Old Testament which would be true, but the New Testament is not so brutal or unexplainable. I am struggling through the Old Testament too right now, it is slow going but you do find those hidden treasures. I love your reviews and honesty.

Tanya W And yes, I am speaking of the Old Testament... the New Testament is a 5 star book. Thanks Shellie. I haven't read the Bible lately... but I do talk about it with Eric periodically.

On reflection, I feel a little guilty giving it 4 stars simply because it does contain teachings of great beauty and truth... I really like some parts of Isaiah as well as Job, Samuel, Daniel, and Ezekiel... and overall I think it's just an amazing spirit filled work. I look forward to the day when some of the missing pieces can be explained... like Esther and her eventual brutality after Israel was spared (one of many examples).

I think I have read the Old testament 2 or 3 times and the New Testament maybe 4 or 5 times... but it has been too long. I miss the longer blocks of time I used to have before marrying and having children.

Shellie LOL
We all miss the larger blocks of time before children and husbands!
You ARE adorable...
Don't feel guilty, it's a perfectly fine status. You are right many parts are not all that good. So 4 stars is fine.
