The Husband
by Dean Koontz
by Dean Koontz
Escapism is one thing - and all good stories often ask us to suspend belief for a while - but Dean Koontz has really missed the target on this one. As someone else has commented, the first few pages are gripping but then it all collapses fast
I am coming to the realisation that I don't much like formulaic glamour thriller novels unless they are exceptionally well written. This book really was the prime example of a badly written one. It reminds me of a violent, 3rd rate South American TV soap opera. Take your standard cardboard hero/villain/victim characters in settings that must be either super rich or indescribably derelict, churn them up a bit in an increasingly laughable plot, keep the violence level high, add a few attempts at sloppy philosophising and a dose of child abuse for good measure.... and then of course the ending must always confirm us in thinking that Good wins over Evil
Ugh!
