This is the sequel to Donnelly's The Tea Rose
, which I also enjoyed quite a bit. The book interweaves the characters of Fiona and Joe Bristow, from The Tea Rose
with India Selwyn Jones, a young woman just graduating from medical school. Also in the mix are Sid Malone, the notorious gangter from London's Whitechapel district, and Fiona's brother Seamie, a would-be explorer. The book kept me entertained from start to finish. I will admit that many of the plot points are quite reminiscent of The Tea Rose
and even somewhat absurd at times, so I wouldn't recommend reading the two in quick succession. But having read the sequel many months after the first installment, I found it to be quite an enjoyable read. I understand there will be a third book in the series, and I look forward to reading that as well.
