Nowhere near as funny as his past books, but still enjoyable. Still has the Waters' edginess, and some genuine pearls of wisdom, but drifts quite a bit.
Oddly enough I enjoyed the Leslie chapter the best. I am not one of those people obsessed with serial killers. I find them repulsive. His earlier books talked about his fondness for the Manson trials, and I just kind of beared with that. What I enjoyed about his updated comments in Role Models are the alterations of his views. A more mature look at the harsher aspects of the violent clan. His reflectiveness & reevalution was endearing. Hard to describe, but in admitting his past overzealousness he actually made me look at the characters involved from a slightly different angle than I have before. Do I think they (not Manson) should be reintroduced to society? No comment... But I have to admit, he opened my mind to the idea of it...
One could easily believe the entire book was written under the guise of just officially voicing his opinions on Leslie Van Houten & his views on her future parole possibilities... hmmm....

Now if I could only get him to change his mind on ethical treatment of animals... We would be good.

Highlights:
I like his take on 'modern feminism' in the chapter Bookworm, in relation to his review of We Need to Talk About Kevin.

"Being rich is not about how much money you have or how many homes you own; it's the freedom to buy any book you want without looking at the price and wondering if you can afford it." (Bookworm chapter)

& a John Waters book would not be complete without sentences starting off with things like:
"Anyway, here I am at the home of the most notorious underground Marine pornographer in the world..."
