This book was a eye opener for me because it made the world of the immigrant come alive. The food history of the New York immigrant is so interesting that I want to read more on the subject. The author also includes recipes for each chapter and I plan on trying a few. It also was also kind of scary to read about the anti immigrant movement and see that there is no difference compared to today. Great book and reads real easy. The book follows five families that live in a tenement on 97 orchard street a very personal story. Loved it!
