1901 hobo stories offer no relief whatsoever from the paranoia about authority gone hopelessly wrong one gets from contemporary novels.

Erin speaking of hobos and roads, did you read Cormac McCarthy's book of the same title? Also troubling.

Erin I haven't read it yet, Todd did and was in a state the whole time. Then we watched the movie and now I'm afraid to read it myself. The cellar of spare people???

Alex V. That's actually not even the truly creepy part of McCarthy's The Road; it's the constant, perfectly wrought dread, the fear one has for one's kids, etc. It totally put me in a state. Like sometimes I'll still get a little shiver of it and I have a hard time shaking it off.
