This was a space exploration novel that I had high hopes for as the beginning of the novel started well. I also liked the concept of only certain people being able to function as starship navigators through grimspace. However, I became thoroughly disappointed with the novel.

The main character Sirintha Jax was a character I really had difficulty forming any connection with. She seemed to be all over the map and it was difficult to characterize her in any one particular way. I couldn't tell if her flip-flopping attitude was because that how she was or a result of her being on the 5 day rag during the story.

The last part of the novel seemed rushed and seemed to quickly tie up what could have been a good storyline. It was as-if the author had no more plot to run with and rushed to end the story abruptly. The whole story from New Terra onward seemed like an afterthought. The love scenes seemed to contribute little to the story or characters; was this a science fiction novel or a Daniel Steele book? Some of the descriptions of grimspace seemed to make it out to be an orgy in space. It seemed the author tried to pull off some sexually charged conveyance to the reader, but failed in the attempt.

This first novel left me lacking any desire to read the next book in the series.
