This was a wonderful book about an adorable dog named Rocket who longs to read, and a plucky, determined bird who teaches him the alphabet. "Rocket Learned to Read" is a book to be read at a slow pace, as one can savor the lovely illustrations as Rocket and his background transform over time. What's great about this book is that Rocket comes to learn to read of his own free will, but once he does, the little yellow bird is sweet in her daily encouragement of her star pupil.
Highly recommended for library story time, ages five and up.
