I've really liked all of the Three Pines books written by Louise Penny, but this one stands out. Armand Gamache is called back to the tiny Quebec village after Madeleine Favreau dies during a seance in a supposedly haunted house that goes horribly wrong. The village of Three Pines is as close to an Eden as any place can be where human beings actually live. The villagers are close to each other and each individual has both endearing and exasperating qualities. I would like to get to know these people and spend some time inside of their circle. In this book, Penny deals with the themes of love, trust, compassion, and independence and the more sinister actions and emotions that can exist alongside them. A wonderful read.
