** spoiler alert ** Oh, Cujo. I think I had high expectations for this book because I had heard so much about it. There are Cujo references galore in pop culture, and among people with whom I cavort. Almost everyone knows that Cujo is a dog that killed a bunch of people, and only slightly fewer know that he had rabies. While the story was quite enjoyable, and some of the scenes were intense (poor Sheriff Bannerman), this loses one star and falls into the "OK" category instead of the "like" for one reason. The lady and her son were sitting in the car in the driveway for 150 pages, if I recall correctly. I understand that suspense build-up is necessary for the success of this story, and I reckon he does it well enough, but eventually I just wanted her to do something, even if it was wrong. Just get out of the damn car! Eventually she does, of course, and naturally it's about 2 seconds too late for the son who expires at that very moment, I believe. I do like that part simply because I like tragedy stuff. The popping back to life that occurs in the movie is just too sappy for my tastes. So, if you like action, then this is not the book for you. If you like suspenseful build-up, then I give this a definite recommendation.
