Laura and her sisters winter in the booming town of De Smet, Dakota Territory; Laura has a real social life (Almonzo Wilder comes a-courting); and she works as a school teacher. As usual, Wilder's book is a fascinating read to learn about how people lived and worked (and thought) differently in different times and places. I was especially interested in her teaching school at age 15 or 16 -- when some students were 16 or 17! That is an experience I am glad I did not have. This book is not quite as adventurous as the earlier works - the family's migration is over - but still recommended reading.
