Warriors is a treasure trove of short stories sharing the them of Warriors. Since the editor of the collection is fantasy grand pooh-bah, George R.R. Martin, I expected a heavy dose of sword and sorcery, but I was surprised at the collection's variety. There were several historical fiction stories, a smattering of sci-fi, some fantasy, a contemporary thriller, and a super hero crime fighting story that defied description.
This latter story, by Peter Beagle, was my favorite. It was a super-hero book that was fit for publication in the New Yorker. I'll definitely be picking up some books by him in the future.
Lawrence Block's thriller was also satisfying as was David Weber's story about an alien invasion of Earth. Normally I dislike David Weber's military sci-fi, but his novella of humans fighting back was too much fun.
I could spend all day reviewing each story in Warriors. Suffice it to say I will be purchasing this book the moment I find it at a used bookstore.
