bookshelves: suspense

** spoiler alert ** Guess I'd say this one is a little dated now, due to events in the world that have transpired since its publication. I am not attracted to the main character, Wallander, who is a police detective even more shut down and inaccessible than your average protagonist in a police procedural. The very best part of it for me was the evolution of Wallander's relationship with his partner and friend, Martinsson. Martinsson decides that Wallander's washed up, too old, unable any longer to lead. Wallander's grief and rage over the betrayal was interesting, also his relationship with his daughter and her decision to become a cop (big surprise there). All in all, I probably will not read more in this series.
