I’ve had a soft spot for the Wings series since I read the first book over two years ago. Every book in the series brings something different, and I have for the most part loved everything I’ve gotten to read from this sweet, fun series. Destined, I am happy to report, is my favorite of all the Wings books.
Unlike the first three books in the Wings series, Destined is packed to the brim with action. Though the rest of the series is slower paced, the majority of Destined is battles and action and adventure and thrilling plot twists. That’s not all there is to Destined, though. Everything fans of the Wings series love is included also, amplified and better than ever before.
Aprilynne Pike has written a great series that I am sure I will be reading again in the future. The Wings books were fantastic in their own respect, but I am eager to see what else she can do. She’s proved herself with Wings and its sequels, but I’d really like to see something darker or more intense from her, since the Wings books are lighter and a lot more innocent than most of the books I read.
The characters were all so fantastic in Destined. The fantastic cast Pike has created in the first three books come in full throttle and I loved the way they carried the story, and the changes they went through throughout the book. There are no loose ends with these characters and their story. Pike includes a Nineteen Years Later-esque epilogue that she says to skip if you like happy endings, but I read it anyway because she also said it’s how she’s always wanted the series to end. And though the absolute ending is bittersweet, I think it’s a perfect fit for the Wings series.
Though I am sad to see this series end, Destined was the best of the Wings books, and it left me fully satisfied with this series. I will definitely be revisiting these books, and will be loyal to Aprilynne Pike. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.
