I read Charlie Huston's previous book, The Mystic Arts of Erasing All Signs of Death, and I really enjoyed it. I figured that Sleepless would be somewhat similar.

Nope.

FYI - This is not a happy book. That being said, Sleepless had me transfixed from page 1. It kept me up far too late reading it at night more than once.

The version of L.A. shown in this book is far too easy to see occurring in the future. The author does a great job showing the reader what going through a slow motion apocalypse could be like. The plot was well structured and the characters were fleshed out. The ending was very good.

There is some violence in the book, and some explicit torture, but it wasn't that bad. There is also a lot of talk about a WoW like online game, so a little knowledge of gaming wouldn't be a bad thing. Don't worry it's not a sci-fi book.

I highly recommend this book, it was very interesting and hard to put down. I am now going to read Charlie Huston's earlier books.
