** spoiler alert **
So it was good, don't get me wrong. But I felt it just missed something that Sabriel and Lirael had. Just that extra spark. At some points it even felt as though Nix had lost what he felt he was writing for. Maybe it's just me.
But it did pick up, especially towards the end. I felt sorry for Nicholas, and could feel Lirael's pain as she lost her hand. And the Dog- oh, dog, come back! But alas, some things cannot be.
It may not have helped that I read Lirael and Abhorsen so shortly between.
I also got a sense that Nix was really hoping to see it on the silver screen at some point. As my dad sometimes says, it was written as though it was for the TV. The action was clear and vibrant, and was written... well, as though for the TV.
Enjoyable, but I prefer Lirael.
