I loved the way this was written and think some of the character development is the best I've encountered. Really eloquent, touching narrative that sucks you in without being pretentious.

That said, I strip the book of 2 stars because it really ended with a whimper, not the bang I was anticipating. Many of the reviews talked about how it was a book about NYC and 9/11, but there was ultimately no real plot associated with anything other than the tightrope walker. While I liked the tightrope walker as the center of the montage, I don't understand why the narrative implied otherwise. I kept waiting for the tightrope walker story to meld with 9/11 and it never did. In fact, the book didn't have any sort of an "aha!" ending at all. Ultimately disappointed, though engaged and deeply satisfied throughout the 150 pages.

In summation: beautiful characters, weak plot.
