Moneyball : The Art of Winning an Unfair Game
by Michael Lewis
by Michael Lewis
This isn't just a book about baseball stats and economics - it's a story of how real-world statistics helped create a new appreciation for undervalued players, belying baseball's old folk wisdom about who should make it to the big leagues. And Lewis knows how to write with flow; I found it hard to put down my Kindle. Some familiarity with baseball terminology is a must, such as a 'ball' (when a pitcher makes a throw that goes wide of the strike zone and the batter doesn't swing at it; four of them mean the batter can 'walk' to first base), but it really is a tale that anyone can get into.
