I have to admit that I wasnt too sure about this one. I knew we were fast running out of brothers so It had to be the turn of Caspers sons soon. We kinda met Brandt and Jessie in Kanes book. Neither of them stood out as very strong characters, although Brandts reaction to Jessies admission that she didnt see him as anything other than a brother left a lump in my throat.
We start off the book a few months after Kanes book is over. Brandt has decided that he isnt going to play second best to Lukes ghost (although he is still in love with Jessie) and Jessie has decided that she has to try to be something other than Lukes widow. It starts off with fireworks (Jessie ends up smashed at a party with an other man which Brandt witnesses) but the true story starts when Brandt ends up looking after Lukes baby (with a woman Luke cheated on Jessie with) and ends up asking Jessie for help.
I loved this book. The character development of Jessie over the course of this book was belivable because of the time span the book was set in. I also really respected Jessie by the end of the book. At first I couldnt understand why she didnt just tell Brandt to take a running hike (and why, if he did love her so much, he would be so horrible as to ask). These thoughts were echoed by major players in the book. But then I got it, because Landon needed some support and he was just as much an innocent in the whole situation as Jessie. I loved that Brandon was completely different to all the other McKays. Yes he had the same take charge tendencies as the rest of them! Yeah he was a little over the top aggressive like Kade and Colt. But, he didnt embrace his temper like the others did and he genuinely wanted to settle down with Jessie from the start. He didnt run from his feelings and he didnt try to play her in anyway. He just genuinely wanted her to fall in love with him if she could. In a way it kinda reminded me a little of Kades book (except Sky is a completely kettle of fish to Jessie) The chemistry sizzled off the page as per ususal in these books but I loved the fact that the major conflicts were circumstances rather than one of them being a commitment-phobe! I recommend this book whole-heartedly!
