This 200 page read depicts a moment in time around the Mexican American War when a competent and introspective army officer named Napoleon experiences an uncharacteristic lapse in judgment when he leads a small patrol of men into a Mexican ambush.

This is definitely a book that needs to be taught to rather than read independently by students. It probably has a place in the 4AP curriculum and would work well while exploring existentialist literature.
