So, one of my friends recommended this for me and, I must say, I was a little skeptical. It is so different from what I usually read. I mean, no magic, science fiction, time travel, historical fiction, etc. It is a completely realistic. But, she was so insistent that I promised I would read it.
I couldn't have been more wrong. This book was so amazing. I read it in one day. I love the Beatles, but I don't know nearly as much about them as I should. I really loved all the references to them. One reason I don't read a lot of realistic chick books is because it seems that most are about "getting the guy." What I loved about this book was that the whole book was focused on not being about that. I thought it was a great idea to focus on real friends and yourself, with boys on the side, instead of the other way around. It was really empowering and it made me feel happy reading it. Some of my friends say that I was born in the wrong century because I find the Medieval Period and the Renaissance, and the 18th and 19th centuries so interesting. That may be true but I don't think I could have survived then solely because of all the crap girls had to take. I believe in the power of women and feel the need to wear pants (figuratively and literally). That is what this book is about. The point is for girls to take control and not allow themselves to be pushed, used or broken by guys. It is really one of the best books I have ever read.

“Tracy and I were among the few girls left in our class who hadn't made it to the table as Todd's girl of the moment. I'd never had the desire to be part of their demented version of Noah's Ark, where you could only survive if you were paired up with a member of the opposite sex. If I had to choose between dating Todd and missing the boat, I was fully prepared to drown.”

“There was only one thing I could do to ease the pain. I turned to the only four guys who'd never let me down. The only four guys who'd never broken my heart, who'd never disappointed me.
John, Paul, George, and Ringo.

I am so glad you loved this book as much as I did. I love how it is so different for all the other teen romance novels out there. I think I am going to have to read this book again when (if ever :})I get my first boyfriend. BTW was it I who recommanded it to you. I told you about it but i dont remember being insistent. LOL :)

Lol yes you were. It's not my type of book really, but you were so sure that I would like it. That's the only reason I tried it... but I'm glad I did:)Jenna wrote: "I am so glad you loved this book as much as I did. Well said, Kate. It's good to know that there are still books like this out there, as well as intelligent young women who want to read them. :)Now, about your "born in the wrong century" comments. I am often told the same. My reply is this ~ I was born, not in the wrong century, but in the perfect time to love the past and let everyone know about it. I'm with you; women definitely got the short end in the medieval and renaissance times. And let's face it, indoor plumbing, penicillin and clean water are nothing to shrug off, not to mention daily baths or showers.
