Very well written, Tracy Chevalier has captured 17th-century Delft in a very imaginative and artistic way…and I’ve decided it’s a place I would never want to go to. I didn’t like it. Though the characters are described in great detail, I could not get myself to care for their well being. The underlines of deceitfulness, and almost adultery made me wince. It had the type of ending where no characters ended up with happiness, they were instead forced to settle with what they were handed. I’m glad I read it, if for nothing else, then to be able and have my own honest opinion…but I won’t be re-reading it.
