I loved the glimpse into early 20th century obstetrical practices and infertility treatments here (the book is fabulously well-researched), and I'm always interested in stories about women trying to combine a creative life (in this case, a career as an opera singer) with motherhood. The three main characters -- the opera singer, her husband, and their doctor -- are interesting and not at all predictable. The book was ultimately a bit melodramatic for my taste, but it's nicely written and engaging.
