Alright, so I love me some SK, but the prologue of this book did not spark my interest...and the beginning of the book did not grab me. So I set it aside because I had about 10 other books sitting on my coffee table. But all the reviews were great, so...I picked it up again a few weeks later. Boy am I ever glad I did. Didn't take too much longer for me to realize that I wasn't going to be able to put this one down.

Nykyrian ranks right up there with Sin (from Born in Sin which SK wrote under her pen name Kinley MacGregor - what's up with her and the number of characters she's named Sin anyway?). I think he is actually softer than Sin in a lot of ways, even though they are both assassins. Sin holds out a lot longer than Nyk and Sin's actual sacrifice seems greater than Nyk's...though Nyk seems to get more injured than Sin does. Nyk's story is more gruesome and in some ways more heart breaking. Although Nyk's overall HEA is more complete than Sin's (though I don't think either character would argue himself as "less lucky" in his ending). I really enjoyed the book and will need to read Born in Fire to see if the prologue of Born of Night is really necessary.

My hat, as usual, is off to SK. Love her.

November 2011: So I put this book in my library back in December of 2010 after the first read and you know I'm enjoying it my second time around. Love Nykyrian, still deciding to read Caillen's name as "Cai-yen", I just can't think of him as "Kay-Lynn", that just messes with me, in a way that Dancer and Darling just don't. Funny enough, I'm not that big of a fan of Syn this time around, but I know he gets better, so he gets a buy.
