This isn't my favorite Princess Diaries book, that would be #4 Princess in Waiting on sheer funniness, but I thought it was good. Mia deals with deeper things than just the prom, but with about the same degree of self-obsessed idiocy. However, I distinctly remember being a complete idiot at the age of 15 as well as being impossibly naive. I like that Meg Cabot doesn't choose to give her heroine an adult conscience. Teenagers already take themselves far too seriously, it's nice when an author writes with pointed naivete.
Also I liked that Mia is starting to absorb and use at least some of the information everyone is painstakingly imparting to her. She may just grow up after all, but I hope it happens with a lot of references to celebrity gossip.
